Whiplash Auto Accident Injury

Katelyn’s Recovery after an Auto Accident Whiplash

Whiplash is a neck injury caused by the sudden back-and-forth movement of the head and neck, commonly occurring in auto accidents, especially rear-end collisions. Symptoms may include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, shoulder and upper-back pain, muscle spasms, reduced range of motion, dizziness, and numbness or tingling. Treatment can include medication, physical therapy, ice or heat, therapeutic exercises, chiropractic care, spinal adjustments, and postural rehabilitation. Prompt evaluation is important because symptoms can persist and potentially contribute to chronic pain, stiffness, and mobility or nerve-related problems.

The Accident & Katelyn’s Symptoms

After a painful auto accident, Katelyn came to our office suffering from severe whiplash, neck, shoulder, upper and lower back pain, and widespread body aches. Her pain was around a 6 out of 10, making it difficult to work as a server, coach cheer, and maintain her normal workouts. She had already tried physical therapy, but the relief was only temporary.

After a thorough examination and chiropractic X-rays, Dr. Chris identified multiple spinal misalignments contributing to nerve pressure and irritation.

Her Chiropractic Care

Katelyn also continued experiencing cognitive symptoms following the accident. Our office referred her to a specialized clinic for further testing, where she was found to have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). BrainTap® technology and massage bed therapy were incorporated into her care to help address the cognitive issues she was experiencing. It helps to promote relaxation, support better sleep, and encourage focus and cognitive wellness.

To address her pain and help support her recovery, Katelyn received a combination of therapies, including:

  • Massage Bed With Heat: helps reduce muscle spams, increases spinal mobility and disc hydration.
  • Muscle Gun: helps reduce pain and stiffness and ready for adjustment.
  • Chiropractic Adjustments: helps reduce pain and stiffness while improving spinal mobility and function, promotes healing.
  • Postural Traction: helps correct structural misalignments and retrain the tissues that support the spine.
  • Laser Therapy: helps reduce pain and inflammation, support circulation, and promote the body’s natural tissue-healing process.
  • Wobble / Vibration Balance Exercise Platform: helps improve core strength, circulation, balance, and spinal support while reducing pressure on the discs.
  • Ice Therapy: helps  reduce soreness and inflammation, and improve comfort.

Katelyn’s Results

Today, Katelyn has made an incredible turnaround. Her worst-day pain has decreased from 6 out of 10 to approximately 2 out of 10, with many days being completely pain-free. She is back to working, coaching cheer, exercising, and enjoying her active lifestyle with much less limitation.

Katelyn’s story shows why it’s important to have auto accident injuries thoroughly evaluated as quickly as possible. If you’ve been injured in an accident and are still struggling with pain or other symptoms, Macomb Township Chiropractic and Dr. Chris may be able to help you on your road to recovery!

Growing up in Metro Detroit Michigan in a medical family, with both his mother and father working as registered nurses, Dr. Chris always knew he wanted to go into the medical profession. After recovering from a severe auto accident while he was in high school, in which he fractured both of his arms, several fingers and his leg, and had to undergo extensive surgeries and physical therapy. That is when Dr. Chris decided to go to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist.

At the same time Dr. Chris was going to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist he was introduced to chiropractic care by a high school friend who was going to Life University to become a chiropractor.  Since starting under chiropractic care, the chronic sinus infections he used to experience on a monthly basis now happen rarely, and at that time he became a chiropractic believer and converted. That’s when he changed his college major from physical therapy to chiropractic.

Dr. Chris graduated from Life University in Marietta Georgia in 2002 and has dedicated his life to helping the people of Macomb County Michigan achieve natural and safe health and healing through chiropractic rehab and disc decompression therapy.
