Knee Pain
Deborah is the perfect example of someone who finally got rid of her agonizing knee pain with Chiropractic treatments in our office! She came into our office just a short time ago stating her main concern was her knee pain. She also had mid and low back pain, and was rating her pain level at a 10 on a scale from 1-10. She was walking using a walker or cane, and complained about not being able to sleep at night. She couldn’t get in and out of a car and stated she had trouble doing just about everything! Deb tried physical therapy twice for her knee pain and told us it did nothing to help! Being a little older, Deb was also dealing with some other medical issues so was seeking an alternative to more traditional medical care.
We did a full consultation with Deborah and took Chiropractic x-rays on her first visit, and Dr. Chris found areas in her spine that were misaligned. These misalignment’s were putting pressure on the nerves associated with her back and also her knees. Deborah’s gate was also off which was adding additional, unnecessary pressure on her knees when she walked. Dr. Chris tailored a care plan for Deb which included regular Chiropractic adjustments, postural rehabilitation and disc decompression therapy. In just four short months, Deb was feeling so much better she wanted to do a video testimonial to share her success story. She stated today she is doing “very good!” Her balance has improved, she doesn’t need to use a walker or cane anymore, she is sleeping good, and said she “feels like she’s back to normal!” When asked what her pain level is today, Deb said it’s a zero.
Knee pain is pain directly behind the knee cap, joints of the knee, or ligaments surrounding the knee area. It can radiate to other parts of the leg, calf, thigh or foot. Knee pain can result from a number of things including injuries, sprains, arthritis, overuse, tendonitis, or pinched nerves. Risk factors include: excess weight, lack of muscle flexibility and strength, playing high impact sports, repetitive stress on the knee joint from certain occupations that involve prolonged kneeling, squatting, or heavy lifting, or an altered gate. An altered gate can cause stress on you knee joint, which can be caused from a misaligned spine or hips.
What are the Symptoms of Knee Pain?
The location or severity of knee pain can vary from sharp stabbing pain when moved, to dull, achy pain while resting. The pain can be persistent or come and go. Pain can radiate in the knee joint and be accompanied by swelling and stiffness, redness and warm to the touch, weakness or instability, or popping or crunching noises.
What Kind of Problems Arise from Knee Pain?
Knee pain can lead to a large number of problems including: difficulty walking, reduced mobility, inability to go up and down stairs, weakness or instability while walking, difficulty getting up from a chair, limited range of motion, sleep disturbances, work limitations, inability to participate in physical activities which can lead to social isolation, and discomfort doing daily tasks. There is also the possibility if left untreated, knee pain due to underlying causes can lead to arthritis, additional tears or cartilage damage, or even knee surgery.
How Does Chiropractic Help?
Chiropractic can help with knee pain in a number of ways. Pressure point manipulation around the knee joint can reduce pain and increase mobility. Chiropractic adjustments relieve pinched nerves and also increase blood flow, which promotes overall health and healing by enhancing the immune system and nervous system function. Spinal misalignments can often affect your posture and gate, which directly affects knee function. Correcting these misalignments often leads to improved knee function and less pain. Proven Chiropractic results for knee pain include: pain reduction, improved joint function, strengthened support muscles, reduced swelling and inflammation, and prevention of pain reoccurrence.
