Hip Pain

Damion, a middle aged husband and dad, came into our office last summer with severe hip and low back pain. Damion said his hip pain was “sharp” and pretty constant, except when he was laying still in bed. He rated his hip and back pain at a number 8 out of 10. He said it was affecting almost all of his daily life activities from work to recreation. He was unable to do sports or household activities, and felt constant pain when he was walking, standing, bending, lifting, or twisting his body.

We took x-rays of Damion at his first visit, and Dr. Chris found misalignment’s in his lower spine which were putting pressure on all the surrounding nerves leading to his hips. The inflammation was causing muscle and joint irritation which was causing his low back and hip pain. Damion was put on a care plan specific to his back and hip pain which included manual adjustments with stretching and rolling, nerve and muscle guns, postural rehabilitation, and the massage bed.

After just three short months, Damion’s x-rays showed improvement and on re-exam his assessment, he stated he was “totally better.” By the end of the year, Damion listed his hip pain as a 0 out of 10, and said he was “feeling great.” He resumed all his previous activities, pain-free, and told us coming to see Dr. Chris was the best thing that could have happened to rid him of his back and hip pain!

Hip pain is pain or discomfort you feel in or around your hip joint. Your hip joint connects your thigh bone to your pelvis and is one of the largest joints in your body. This joint is important because you constantly use it to move, walk, support your weight, and maintain your balance. Muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves around the hip can become overused, and become a constant source of pain. Hip pain can also be caused by injury, bursitis, tendinitis, inflammation, or sciatica.

What are the Symptoms of Hip Pain?

Symptoms of hip pain can include discomfort in your thigh, inside your hip joint, groin area, outside of the hip joint, or your buttocks. Hip pain may come and go, or get worse while walking or moving. Hip pain can be more prominent when you first wake up, but it’s also common to feel pain at night. Other common symptoms can include: limping, stiffness, swelling, and loss of motion. Pain can be sharp, stabbing, snapping or popping sensation, or dull ache.

What Kind of Problems Arise from Hip Pain?

Hip pain can lead to several problems including difficulty with daily activities, potential for serious injury, and long term health issues. Hip pain makes it difficult to move, walk, sit, stand and sleep. This can lead to balance and mobility issues, injury and instability. Chronic hip pain can lead to osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease, which could result in surgery. Chronic hip pain can negatively impact your mood, which can cause anxiety and depression.

How Does Chiropractic Help?

Chiropractic is one of the best resources for hip pain. Chiropractic helps by restoring proper alignment of the spine and pelvis, which reduces inflammation and helps restore muscle function. This takes stress off the hip joint and surrounding muscles, and improves mobility. Chiropractic helps with hip stiffness, increases blood flow, and loosens tense joints.

Growing up in Metro Detroit Michigan in a medical family, with both his mother and father working as registered nurses, Dr. Chris always knew he wanted to go into the medical profession. After recovering from a severe auto accident while he was in high school, in which he fractured both of his arms, several fingers and his leg, and had to undergo extensive surgeries and physical therapy. That is when Dr. Chris decided to go to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist.

At the same time Dr. Chris was going to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist he was introduced to chiropractic care by a high school friend who was going to Life University to become a chiropractor.  Since starting under chiropractic care, the chronic sinus infections he used to experience on a monthly basis now happen rarely, and at that time he became a chiropractic believer and converted. That’s when he changed his college major from physical therapy to chiropractic.

Dr. Chris graduated from Life University in Marietta Georgia in 2002 and has dedicated his life to helping the people of Macomb County Michigan achieve natural and safe health and healing through chiropractic rehab and disc decompression therapy.
