Mid Back Pain

Janet came into our office complaining about mid back pain as well as low back pain, and pain and spasms in her ankles and feet. She also had some concerns with her posture. On a pain scale from 1-10, Janet listed her mid back pains at 6. She said “the middle of her back felt like it had a vise on it!” She wasn’t sleeping well at night and would wake up numerous times due to the pain, which was affecting her normal daily activities. She had pain doing the simplest things like walking and standing, and when not in pain, Janet said her back was always stiff.

On Janet’s first visit, Dr. Chris took a full set of Chiropractic x-rays and after analysis, discovered she had many areas of spinal misalignment. These misalignment’s were causing pinching of the nerves, causing inflammation and pain. With a care plan that included postural rehabilitation, disc decompression, and regular adjustments, just six short weeks later Janet’s x-rays showed improvement. On her Re-Assessment Form, Janet actually checked off all the boxes that showed “Totally Better.” In her patient testimonial, she stated today she’s pain free, and listing all zeros at her regular appointments”. She said she is “sleeping at night” and “not waking up anymore”. She’s walking regularly again, and her daily activities have returned to normal. She also shared the revelation that she saw a different chiropractor before coming to Macomb Township Chiropractic, and he told her she had “bad scoliosis and it would never straighten out”, but “with me coming here, my spine is pretty close to being normal.”

Janet stated she is “extremely happy” that she came into our office and is finally free of the pain that she was suffering with since 2020!

Mid back pain is one of the most common issues a person can have. A major trauma such as a car accident, slip and fall, or sports injury is a common cause for mid back pain, as well as little traumas caused by repetitive daily activities which over time cause misalignments in the spine. Constant bending, lifting, standing long periods of time, or sitting for extended periods all are defined as little traumas. Other causes of mid back pain include muscle strain, scoliosis, disc issues, poor posture, arthritis, and pinched nerves in the spine.

What are the Symptoms of Mid Back Pain?

Dull, sharp, stabbing, throbbing, or aching pain, stiffness in surrounding muscles and joints, burning sensation, numbness or tingling in one or both legs or arms, muscle spasms, tightness, reduced range of motion, radiating pain to other areas of the back, and weakness.

What Kind of Problems Arise from Mid Back Pain?

Limited range of motion, mobility, sleep issues, difficulty breathing, mood issues, worsening pain, weakness, job related problems, school and community engagement, chronic fatigue, and overall decreased quality of life are all problems that can occur from ongoing mid back pain. If pinched nerves in the spine are contributing to the pain, this can lead to more serious issues from lack of blood flow to vital organs in the body. Your heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, bladder, digestive tract, and even reproductive organs can be affected.

How Does Chiropractic Help?

Chiropractic adjustments help by realigning the spine and reducing the pressure on nerves that are causing irritability and pain. This decreases inflammation, irritation, and muscle tension, and improves nerve and blood flow which encourages healing and pain relief.

Growing up in Metro Detroit Michigan in a medical family, with both his mother and father working as registered nurses, Dr. Chris always knew he wanted to go into the medical profession. After recovering from a severe auto accident while he was in high school, in which he fractured both of his arms, several fingers and his leg, and had to undergo extensive surgeries and physical therapy. That is when Dr. Chris decided to go to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist.

At the same time Dr. Chris was going to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist he was introduced to chiropractic care by a high school friend who was going to Life University to become a chiropractor.  Since starting under chiropractic care, the chronic sinus infections he used to experience on a monthly basis now happen rarely, and at that time he became a chiropractic believer and converted. That’s when he changed his college major from physical therapy to chiropractic.

Dr. Chris graduated from Life University in Marietta Georgia in 2002 and has dedicated his life to helping the people of Macomb County Michigan achieve natural and safe health and healing through chiropractic rehab and disc decompression therapy.
