Slip and Falls

When Kathy came into our office, she was dealing with the painful aftermath of a fall from her horse. What started as an accident quickly became a life-limiting problem. She was experiencing pain in her back, neck, and ribs, along with hip pain and frequent headaches. Beyond the discomfort, the injuries were affecting her balance, flexibilitydaily activities and—most importantly to her—her ability to ride her horse comfortably. Kathy mentioned she did rehab for about six months, but it never helped the “deep” pain she continued to feel.

As an active rider, Kathy found it frustrating that everyday movements felt restricted and unstable. Tasks that once felt natural now required extra effort, and riding became uncomfortable and difficult. She knew she needed help not just to reduce the pain, but to restore her mobility.

At Kathy’s first visit to our office, she rated her pain levels at 7’s out of 10 on our pain scale, and Chiropractic x-rays showed misalignment’s in her spine. Dr. Chris explained to Kathy we would focus on addressing the root causes of her symptoms rather than just masking them. Through a personalized chiropractic care plan that included postural rehabilitation, disc decompression on our state-of-the art disc decompression table, muscle gun stimulation, and heat and ice therapy, we worked to improve Kathy’s spinal alignment, reduce inflammation, and restore proper alignment to the affected areas. Over time, Kathy began to notice real changes—less pain, improved balance, better flexibility, and fewer headaches.

Today, Kathy is almost completely pain-free and back to doing everything she loves. She’s riding her horse again, told us she has better posture, more flexibility, and even noticed her horse is riding more level due to her improved posture. She is living her life without the constant reminder of her injury. Testimonials like Kathy’s are why Dr. Chris got into Chiropractic. Chiropractic care isn’t just about pain relief—it’s about helping patients regain function, confidence, and the freedom to live fully.

Falls happen when a person unexpectedly loses balance or stability, often due to slipping, tripping, or misstepping on uneven surfaces. They can be caused by factors such as wet floors, poor lighting, obstacles, dizziness, fatigue, or sudden movements. When a fall occurs, the body may be injured in various ways, ranging from minor bruises and scrapes to more serious injuries like sprains, fractures, or head trauma. Falls can significantly affect the spine by placing sudden force on the neck or back, which may damage bones, discs, muscles, or nerves.

What are the Symptoms you have after a Fall?

Symptoms after a fall can include: pain or tenderness, bruising, swelling, stiffness, cuts or scrapes, headaches, and reduced range of motion. Some people may notice back or neck pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness if nerves are involved. Often delayed symptoms from a fall can occur days, weeks, even months later. These include persistent pain, fatigue, stiffness, and headaches.

What Kind of Problems Arise from having a Fall?

After a fall, several problems can arise, especially involving the spine and neck, due to the sudden impact and force placed on these areas. A fall can cause cervical or spinal fractures, herniated or bulging discs, and soft tissue injuries such as muscle strains or ligament sprains, leading to ongoing neck or back pain and stiffness. Nerve compression may develop, resulting in symptoms like numbness, tingling, weakness, or radiating pain into the arms or legs. In more serious cases, damage to the spinal cord can affect balance, coordination, or even bladder and bowel control.

How Does Chiropractic Help?

Chiropractic care can help people after a fall by addressing spinal misalignments, joint restrictions, and soft tissue injuries that may result from the impact. Gentle chiropractic adjustments and supportive therapies can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore proper alignment in the spine and neck, which can ease pressure on nerves and promote better healing and function.

Growing up in Metro Detroit Michigan in a medical family, with both his mother and father working as registered nurses, Dr. Chris always knew he wanted to go into the medical profession. After recovering from a severe auto accident while he was in high school, in which he fractured both of his arms, several fingers and his leg, and had to undergo extensive surgeries and physical therapy. That is when Dr. Chris decided to go to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist.

At the same time Dr. Chris was going to Wayne State University to become a physical therapist he was introduced to chiropractic care by a high school friend who was going to Life University to become a chiropractor.  Since starting under chiropractic care, the chronic sinus infections he used to experience on a monthly basis now happen rarely, and at that time he became a chiropractic believer and converted. That’s when he changed his college major from physical therapy to chiropractic.

Dr. Chris graduated from Life University in Marietta Georgia in 2002 and has dedicated his life to helping the people of Macomb County Michigan achieve natural and safe health and healing through chiropractic rehab and disc decompression therapy.
