TMJ Jaw Pain Relief
Debi came into our office in early 2025 with multiple health issues including neck and back pain, gerd, sleep apnea, sinus problems, and TMJ pain. Her pain levels at one point were a 7 out of 10 on a pain scale, and she was desperately looking for some type of relief for her TMJ pain. Many doctors will tell you it’s often difficult to find the exact cause of TMJ Disorder, which can cause jaw and muscle pain. Debi told us all areas of her life were being affected with this issue including sleeping, working, and relaxing.
Debi received a full consultation on her first visit with us, as well as a complete set of Chiropractic x-rays. After the analysis, Dr. Chris found multiple areas in Debi’s spine and her psoture that were out of alignment. Debi’s neck in particular was severely misaligned which caused her posture and shoulders to be uneven. This misalignment was putting severe pressure on the nerves coming out her TMJ jaw joint, neck and upper back, contributing to her TMJ pain disorder.
Debi was put on a care plan geared to her problems which included regular Chiropractic adjustments, neck disc decompression on our state-of-the-art decompression table, postural adjustments with the nerve gun, and postural traction to reverse her forward head posture rehab and correct the position of her spine and posture.
What Is TMJ?
What are the Symptoms of TMJ?
Symptoms include: pain or tenderness in the jaw, neck or face, pain or ache in and around the ears, facial pain, headaches and migraines, neck pain, eye pain, ringing in the ears, clicking or popping sounds when opening the mouth, jaw locking, and difficulty fully opening or closing the mouth.
What Kind of Problems Arise from TMJ?
TMJ can lead to chronic headaches, joint damage, jaw misalignment, chronic jaw pain, teeth damage, hearing issues like tinnitus and vertigo, sleep apnea, difficulty chewing and eating, psychological effects leading to anxiety and depression, and a significant decrease in overall quality of life.
How Does Chiropractic Help?
A study published in 2023 by the New York Medical Group concluded that Chiropractic therapy for TMJ disorders reduces pain, improves range of jaw motion and function, reduces headaches, and is one of the best treatment options for TMJ. Adjustments can eliminate pinched nerves that control jaw and facial muscles, reducing or completely eliminating TMJ symptoms. Poor posture, especially in the neck, strains nerves and muscles to the jaw, and Chiropractic can help correct this problem.
What Does Macomb Township Chiropractic Offer?
Our office offers state-of-the-art treatments geared to improving alignment of the neck and the spine, with Chiropractic adjustments and traction, to relieve pressure on the nerves, increase blood flow, improve circulation and nerve function, and promotes healing. Our disc decompression machine can be used on the neck to gently pull and separate the discs, which often relieves pinched nerves. Therapy with our pulsating adjustment instrument stimulates the nerves and muscles, postural traction retrains the tissue (like braces on the teethe) and ice therapy calms irritated nerves and muscles directly leading to the jaw.
